Levi’s Castro Street, San Francisco

This location was unique in Levi’s portfolio for several reasons. This store would be the test of a men’s only concept, the only one in the chain. At 1700 sq. ft., it was also the smallest footprint location. Both of these circumstances represented an opportunity to rethink the design concept and try something new. The exterior facade was inspired by the historic store fronts common in the neighborhood, incorporating classic wood siding, striped awnings and hex tile detailing. The dutch doors make for an inviting entrance and encourage interaction from street. Inside, the materials and finishes take a slightly more masculine tone than the standard design concept, incorporating millwork detailing, framed artwork and unique propping.

Levi’s Castro store opened October 2008 amidst the bustle of publicity in the neighborhood for the world premiere of the movie Milk. This store has become a very successful location for Levi’s and a great addition to the neighborhood.

Levi’s Times Square, New York

With 1.7 million consumers passing through Manhattan’s iconic Times Square,  this 6500 sq. ft. location represented a new opportunity for the Levi’s Brand. As their retail expansion continued in both street and mall locations across the country, the brand realized an opportunity to expand their presence in New York.

The site at 44th Street and Broadway was formerly a deli and electronics store and the combining of the two spaces into one compelling and highly functional retail space was a challenge. It was also the first super high volume store the retailer had developed within the new business model which brought along many learnings from a design as well as operational point of view. The standard design prototype provided the basis of the concept but was substantially modified to incorporate elements that speak to the culture and architecture of New York.

The store opened May 2008 and continues to perform as one of Levi’s most iconic and profitable locations.

Levi’s Macy’s Herald Square, New York

Levi’s Macy’s Herald Square men’s shop was the flagship location in their portfolio of wholesale shops. This proposed new shop concept was developed  as a sales tool for the merchants to aid them in the negotiation of better real estate and a continuous shop layout. The three apparel concepts featured in this department store were given their own slightly unique design concept to help distinguish them while sharing enough materials and finishes in common to ensure they all read as the same brand. Millwork details, point of sale imagery and artwork was unique to each concept. Finishes and materials were shared across concepts but the execution of them varied. Branding and logos in multiple forms were common across all 3 concepts shops.

This concept was hailed by the merchant team as their new benchmark for wholesale shops and while the location of the proposed shop has changed, many elements of this work are being incorporated into the design.

Levi’s JC Penney’s Manhattan Mall

JC Penney’s Manhattan Mall was this affordable retailer’s first store in New York City. This location was a 153,000 square foot, two level store. For this high profile location, JC Penney was interested in a more branded vendor shop approach than was typically accepted in their stores. Bold branding, upgraded point of sale imagery incorporating framed artwork and custom mannequins helped to elevate the Levi’s Brand presence in this location. In contrast to the typical high ceilings and wide aisles of most JC Penney’s stores, this site had a much more intimate feel. Low ceilings and closely planned shops made reaching merchandise capacity in this store of particular importance. As such, high capacity merchandising techniques were employed to make the most of the tight floor plans.

Elle Decor’s Dining by Design was a fundraising event held in New York that brought together 50 top designers and brands from around the world. The event, sponsored by Champagne Taittinger, featured table top settings and designed environments that were used to host a charity dinner. The inspiration for the design concept was the rich history of the Levi’s brand though expressed in more elegant details as was befitting black tie nature of the event. Levi’s environment was one of a handful chosen by Elle Decor to be featured in their 2004 issue detailing the event.

This custom workstation for HGA’s Rochester Office was designed to support the specific needs of architects and designers which managed both large scale documents and bulky computer monitors. Two wide work surfaces allowed for layout of large plan sets. The small conference area provided a place for quick discussions at the desk. Built in mail boxes incorporated into the storage area allowed for efficient shelving and kept clutter to a minimum. These stations were welcome additions to the HGA office and a significant improvement to the overall environment.

This wall mounted jewelry case was designed to be constructed out of reclaimed wood and salvaged vintage mirror. Fitted with hooks, the inside of the door is lined with leather to prevent the hanging pieces from scratching each other or the case. Adjustable shelves and pegs allow the client to accommodate different size pieces.

These  cabinets were designed to function as closed storage in both the client’s bedroom and living rooms. The cases are salvaged wood with clear coated hot rolled steel tube framing. Completely adjustable interior shelving assure a broad range of functions.
